How to fill cream puffs

Whether you make them yourself, or you buy them, cream puffs are a winning combination for anyone who wants to impress their guests by bringing to the table a delicious dessert with a delicate flavor. So, here there are some tips on how to fill cream puffs.

Cream puffs filling

After choosing the filling for the cream puffs, whether it is chocolate, custard or whipped cream, it is advisable to pay particular attention to the baking process. In fact, a good little trick is to bake the puffs leaving the oven door slightly open. Thus, the cream puffs will be crunchy on the outside and hollow on the inside, and ready to be filled according to your taste! In any case, before proceeding with the filling, it is important to make sure that the cream puffs have cooled down well. This will prevent the puffs from deflating, or from melting the cream, during the procedure. Two other precautions are worth mentioning. Firstly, it is recommended to fill the puffs just before serving, so to keep the pastry fragrant; and, secondly, to carefully adjust the amount of filling. This is to prevent overflowing of the filling on the pastry surface and making the cream puffs too “sweet”. Finally, if you try cream puffs with ice cream the result will be exceptional!

Cream puffs with ice cream: the perfect dessert for every season

Even though cream puffs filled with custard, chocolate or ganache are absolutely delicious, it is also true that that they are not the best summer dessert. The use of these fillings should, in principle, be preferred during the cooler seasons. During the summer heat these fillings would weigh us down more than necessary, as they are difficult to digest.

Ice cream, on the other hand, despite being a fairly nutritional food, has a coolness that makes it much more inviting, even at peak temperatures. Cream puffs with ice cream are a simple dessert to prepare (ice cream, unlike other fillings,  does not require homemade preparation, just buy it from your trusted RivaReno Artisan ice cream maker!) and are very refined: the combination of the velvety consistency of the ice cream and the lightness of the pastry will simply entice your palate. Just choose between the classic flavors (zabaglione, pistachio, gianduia ice cream, etc.) and the RivaReno special flavors, ranging from saffron ice cream to the Contessa sesame, from crunchy caramel to dark cremino … the time has come to unleash your imagination and appetite!
