Offella d’Oro: typical Christmas dessert from Verona

If we tried to name all the Italian Christmas desserts, the list would be really long: every Region, and every city has its own favorites, essential desserts in the festivity menues. In Verona, for example, there is Pandoro, famous all over the world, though connoisseurs have eyes (and taste buds) for the Offella d’Oro Perbellini: soft, luxurious, with an incomparable scent of butter , fresh eggs and almonds. Offella d’Oro is exceptional to the point that it has even become a registered trademark, and it is certainly not easy to stand out among the numerous and delicious specialties of the city of Verona!

Typical Veronese desserts

When you think of Verona, Romeo and Juliet, the Arena and the  Pandoro immediately come to mind. However, the gluttonous Veronese do not feed on Pandoro alone. Indeed Verona, in addition to being the romantic city par excellence, has also an unparalleled talent for the production of sweets, especially those with leavened dough. The Alliance Cake, for example, with candied fruit, almond paste and white icing. Or the Torta di Verona: a puff pastry shell that contains a soft dough with almonds and amaretti. Or, again, the delicious Nadalin, ancestor of the most modern Christmas specialties: a soft star-shaped dessert covered with chopped almonds and pine nuts.

The story of the Offella d’Oro: Queen of Italian Christmas desserts

If Panettone and Pandoro compete for the title of King of Italian Christmas on every table, the Offella d’Oro is its undisputed queen. It was invented and has always been produced by the Perbellini, which for five generations has delighted the palate of both Veronese and non-Veronese people. The recipe for Offella d’Oro dates back to 1891 but the recognition of this dessert has not aged and delights young and old alike. The dough is soft and fragrant and the round taste of the Offella is enriched by the toasted note of the almonds that cover the top.

Offella Perbellini filled with RivaReno fresh daily ice cream

The Christmas specialties of the Perbellini pastry shop are all delicious and, as for Panettone and Pandoro, the one with the Offella d’Oro was, for us, love at first taste. This is why we sell it in our parlours and we have decided to offer it also in an even more delicious variation: filled with your favorite flavor of fresh ice cream of the day. Yes, the combination of Offella Perbellini and RivaReno ice cream is the apotheosis of taste: Christmas tradition and freshness together, for a truly unique, soft and creamy dessert. What are you waiting for to bring it to the table at Christmas?
